More About Membership

Am I eligible to join the National Party?

If you are 12 or older, a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, and not a member of any other political party, you are eligible to join the National Party.

Members between the age of 12-18 join as a Young National initially, and on registering as an Elector (joining the Electoral Roll as a voter at age 18) you have the option to join as a main Party member.

Why do other people join?

Kiwis join the National Party for many different reasons. Some members wish to help their communities by taking on leadership roles, supporting particular policy objectives and local campaigns, or they have a keen interest in politics and want to get involved and make a positive difference in any way they can.

The National Party is full of opportunities to help shape the future of New Zealand, and whatever your interest or skills, we have a place for you to get involved.

How much does membership cost?

Under our Constitution and Rules, the National Party minimum membership fee is set at $5.

However, members choose to give on average $40 per annum in membership contributions, with many paying more to support our continuing campaign efforts.

Where does my membership money go?

The National Party is built on the generous contributions of members, donors and supporters. Your contribution from membership helps pay for the many leaflets, hoardings, conferences, and campaign tools we use everyday to get our message out. Our Party is also supported by a small, but dedicated, team of paid professional staff who coordinate our electorate and regional teams.

Every cent we raise is put to the front-line of our continuing campaign efforts, and every cent is put to good use. We simply could'nt do what we do without you.

What happens once I join and become a member?

Once you join, you'll receive your personal membership letter in the mail. Included with the letter is your membership card.

Your local National Party electorate team will also reach out about local events and campaigns, and offer many opportunities to meet other members and supporters.

What can I do once I am a member?

As a member of the National Party you can be as involved as much or as little as you like. You'll have your say on our Party policy, participate in local and national events, and vote in internal elections and at our Regional/National conferences.

We'll offer you access to every tool and resource we have to strengthen our local Party organisation, and helping to deliver on our continuing campaign goals.

By joining National, you become a part of the local National Party electorate team, who will get in touch with many ways to get involved locally.
